This is Slow Cooked, a collection of musings, ongoing projects, and the media I’m consuming; delivered every other week.
Hey there!
What began as a short break from this newsletter to go on a road trip to Ladakh, wound up being a months long hiatus that ends here.
Ayddeesh, Vishal and I set off on a two week trip covering over 2500 km that began in Delhi with stops in Manali, Leh, Nubra Valley and Pangong Lake before making our way back to Delhi.
Along the way, we saw some of the most breathtaking landscapes I had ever witnessed, met some of the kindest, most giving people, ate delicious food and made some lovely memories.
Driving up to 19000 ft. on some of the highest paved roads on the planet came with its own issues, including acclimatising to the lack of oxygen and the intense sunlight. As well as our share of car trouble, which on one instance left us beached by the side of the road for several hours before the Indian Army towed us out.
But all the while, I was in complete awe of what surrounded us. It’s hard to fathom (or even try and describe) the expanse of the land we were driving through, how “big” the sky felt, how one minute we were in harsh sunlight and the next in the cool shade of the mountain that towered alongside us. It was a truly humbling experience.
Here is a selection of photos I’ve taken from the passenger seat that attempt to capture that feeling; as we trundled through ever-changing conditions and landscapes, the harsh mountain sun, rain, snow, sand, and unfinished roads, to some of the finest roads in the country.
